The Great Fire of Hamburg, 1842
From 4th – 8th May 1842, a devastating fire raged through Hamburg, destroying large parts of the city. This event was used as the basis for a test project used to develop the Reader with the HyperImage Editor. The project was used as experimental ground and has not been completed. Nevertheless, HyperBrand is presented here primarily because it presents the whole gamut of the HyperImage Reader’s display options.
A historical map of the city is used to chronologically reconstruct the development of the fire (see the link ‘Show Selections’ in the maps annotation text in the web publication). In addition, the map is linked to historical views of some residential streets and buildings of historical importance during the conflagration (select Navigation > Best Resolution).
